, and the Medicare for All movement has been at the forefront of this movement. On Saturday, July 24th, 2021, rallies took place in 50 cities across the country to demand that healthcare be considered a basic human right, and to call for the implementation of Medicare for All.

The rallies were organized by a coalition of healthcare advocacy groups, including National Nurses United, Physicians for a National Health Program, and Public Citizen. The groups are pushing for the expansion of the Medicare program to cover everyone in the country, regardless of their age, income, or employment status.

The rallies come at a critical moment in the ongoing debate over healthcare in the United States. Despite the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanding access to health insurance, millions of Americans remain uninsured or underinsured. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the deep disparities in healthcare access and outcomes for communities of color and low-income individuals.

The Medicare for All movement aims to address these issues by creating a single-payer healthcare system that eliminates the role of private insurance companies. Proponents argue that this would lead to cost savings, as well as greater access to care for all Americans. They also point to the success of single-payer systems in other countries, such as Canada and the United Kingdom.

Opponents of Medicare for All argue that it would be too expensive and would lead to longer wait times for medical procedures. They also argue that it would eliminate choice for consumers, who would no longer be able to choose their own doctors or insurance plans.

Despite these concerns, polling suggests that there is broad public support for Medicare for All. A 2020 survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 56% of Americans support a national health plan, while 68% support a government-run health insurance option.

The rallies on July 24th were designed to showcase this support and to put pressure on elected officials to act. They included speeches from healthcare providers, patients, and activists, as well as a call to action for attendees to contact their representatives in Congress.

While it remains to be seen whether Medicare for All will become a reality in the United States, the rallies on July 24th demonstrate that there is significant momentum behind the movement. As healthcare remains a critical issue for millions of Americans, the push for universal healthcare is likely to continue to gain support in the coming years.
