Hon. Daniel Botwe, the minister for local government, decentralization, and rural development, has reserved special praise for Mrs. Irene Addo Lartey, the administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), for her special interest in and effort to see that a building for the Local Government Service is finished.
According to him, the government's plan to further decentralise government in response to Article 20 of the Constitution is consistent with the construction of the building.
He asserted that the Service is receiving the facilities it needs to carry out its duties.
These statements were made in a message of support presented by the Minister at the opening of the new office building for the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS) on behalf of the Minister.
Hon. Dan Botwe revealed that since the Local Government Service's founding, insufficient office space has been one of its biggest problems.
He said that throughout the years, the management and workers of the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service had been forced to work out of small office spaces.
It is thus a relief to open this cutting-edge office space, which was created through a partnership between the Ministry, the Office of the District Assembly Common Fund, and the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, he added.
I thank Mrs. Irene Addo Lartey, the administrator, for her great interest in and efforts to see that this building was completed. By building the Office Building, he pressed the Head of Service, his Management, and his team to effectively utilise the government's assistance.
He promised that the availability of office space will allow the Head of Service to deploy the necessary human resource and use it to the fullest extent possible.
Moreover, he exhorted the Service's workers to make appropriate use of the facilities and guarantee timely service delivery.
The OHLGS will be in a better position to work effectively with the Ministry to further the decentralisation Agenda, he expressed hope for the Office Block.
The Chief of the LGS, Ing. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, mentioned that one of the difficulties the Service has had in recent years has been a lack of space for workers to conduct official business.
He claimed that a quick glance around some of the OHLGS's offices painted a picture of crowdedness and congestion, which had a negative impact on employee productivity and did not bode well for an organisation tasked with promoting administrative decentralisation throughout the nation.
Although the need for more office space was long overdue, he claims that the block's completion is a huge relief for both him as Head and the OHLGS as a whole.
