Manchester United haven't won the Premier League since 2013, but not for the reason some fans will tell you.

It has been almost 10 years since Sir Alex Ferguson had his last fun at Old Trafford, as his Manchester United won the Premier League for the 13th time.

Ferguson's latest version of United is not classic; The Red Devils rely heavily on Robin van Persie's 26 goals, as well as on the manager's ability to draw performances from players who are in the twilight of their careers or aren't good enough.

The ambivalence of United's main title competitors has helped their careers, but there is real optimism that United's dominance will shift from the Ferguson era to the reign of David Moyes and beyond. again.

That obviously did not happen, although Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag were on the bench. In November last year, the Glazers announced they were looking to sell the club after 19 years of ownership.

The majority of United fans despise the American bosses and are excited by the prospect of a fresh start under new ownership.

However, the Glazers cannot be blamed for running out of money.

A chart created by Price of Football using the Flourish platform shows that of the 50 clubs that have played in the Premier League since its founding in 1992, United spend the most on wages.

While it may seem obvious - as United have featured in all 31 seasons while others have not - the reality is that United have risen to the top of the wage charts since the last time they won. Since 1992, United have spent £4.121 billion on wages, slightly more than the £4.115 billion Chelsea split.

However, at the end of 2013, United's total wage expenditure was £150m less than Chelsea's, at £1.8bn compared to Stamford Bridge's £1.968bn.

The fact that United have overtaken Chelsea in the decade since those performances in their bid to win those elusive 14th Premier League title makes it somewhat of a shame to fail in that task.

The likes of Chelsea and Manchester City - who are third in all-time wage spending in the Premier League despite five seasons behind United - are often criticized for their spending attitudes. However, the titles won over the past decade show that they were spent properly. The same cannot happen with United.

The final rankings of the top 10 are as follows:

The man agrees:

Chelsea:

4.115 billion pounds

City of man:

£3,621 billion

Liverpool:
