Insisting that it was a "easy decision," Frank Lampard accepted the position of interim manager at Chelsea.
On Thursday afternoon, the storied midfielder returned to Chelsea, accepting an interim position as the team continues its hunt for a new permanent manager. Before taking over at Everton, he served as manager of Stamford Bridge from 2019 to 2021.
Lampard stated that accepting the position was a no-brainer during his unveiling press conference.
"Simple decision for me, this is my club," he declared. In addition, I'm a really pragmatic guy. Despite the fact that I've taken a different path since leaving Chelsea, I always return when requested and do so with the conviction that I can contribute through the rest of the campaign.
"I'm grateful and thrilled to have the opportunity. I'll do my best since I have a solid understanding of the team, the training facility, the stadium, and the supporters.
While the Premier League Hall of Famer stated he had put those thoughts on hold for the time being, Lampard was also asked about his hopes of doing well enough for the club to choose to hand him the permanent post.
"Roberto [Di Matteo] did an amazing job to remain on, but that's another period in the history of the club," he continued.
"I anticipate these inquiries, but what is crucial to me is to set them aside and go to work. I attended the game on Tuesday; the team has a lot of skill, and I'm eager to collaborate with them.
After making a spectacular comeback to the Chelsea bench, Frank Lampard insisted that he is only thinking about the current results and not beyond the conclusion of his interim tenure with the club.
After Graham Potter was fired earlier this month, the Blues rehired their great midfielder and former manager on an interim basis.
Lampard's comeback may also serve as a fantastical tryout for the position he previously held on a long-term basis as Todd Boehly intensifies his search for a long-term replacement.
