Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the return of club legend Frank Lampard as the interim manager until the end of the season. Lampard previously managed the club between July 2019 and January 2021 and led them to a top-four finish and an FA Cup final in his debut season.
Lampard's return to the club comes after the departure of former manager Thomas Tuchel, who left the club after guiding them to a Champions League title and a top-four finish in the Premier League last season.
Lampard, who scored 211 goals in 648 appearances for Chelsea as a player, will be joined by former Chelsea and England teammate Ashley Cole, who will serve as an assistant coach. The coaching staff will also include Joe Edwards and Chris Jones.
Upon his return, Lampard expressed his excitement to be back at the club and acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead. He stated, "I am delighted to be returning to Chelsea. Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared. However, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing the team for the upcoming matches."
