The news that Anthony Joshua's next bout would be against domestic rival Dillian Whyte has divided boxing fans, it seems.
Joshua defeated Jermaine Franklin last weekend to get back on the winning side after losing to Oleksandr Usyk twice in a row.
With his new trainer Derrick James, the 33-year-old outpointed the American to gain a significant victory.
Eddie Hearn discussed Joshua's year in detail after the event, pointing to bout dates in July and December. Also, it appears like Joshua and Whyte will face off in an all-British matchup in July. When they initially squared off, Whyte emerged victorious. But "AJ" got his comeuppance in the professional ranks, winning their 2015 fight with a stoppage.
A professional rematch is scheduled for July, but not everyone is sold on the fight. One person tweeted: "I believe Dillian has the power to make AJ into a beast. may be essential. Yet both are currently declining, so things could possibly turn out badly."
Another felt that the bout was beneficial for both combatants, particularly AJ, who might improve with his new trainer.
"I'd be thrilled to see that one again," a third person said.
One more added: "a good match. I have no issues."Joshua vs. Whyte II has come under some criticism, but Hearn is planning for it to happen at Wembley Stadium this summer.
Whyte, who recently defeated Franklin, was unimpressed with Joshua's performance and asserted that his former adversary has lost all of his "aggression and killer instincts."
He stated: "Joshua no longer had any hostility or killer tendencies. I believe he should cease if he no longer wants to do it."
Whyte continued: "He hesitated each time Franklin pretended to be about to strike him. He's a little shell-shocked, something I've never seen before."
