The two teams who spend the most on pricey teens are Manchester United and Real Madrid, although neither has ever spent the most on a single player.

There is nothing better than nurturing a young player, whether you're a real-life football manager or someone who travels more than a thousand miles to watch an Italian third division team play only for a video game.

It would be ideal if they all came via the youth academy, but very few teams have the good fortune to have a generation like Manchester United's Class of 92 or Barcelona's consistent flow of talent produced by La Masia.

Most young players transfer at some point throughout their career, whether it's before they establish themselves or just for financial reasons.

Everyone is constantly on the lookout for the next wonderkid, and sometimes you have to shell out a lot of cash to get them to join your team.

Wayne Rooney had already demonstrated his talent during his two years at Everton, but United had that when they signed him.

The former England forward is currently ranked as the second-best player in Premier League history, thus his transfer fee as a youngster was justified, according to a recent poll.

Notwithstanding the €37 million Sir Alex Ferguson paid on "Wazza," Football Transfers ranks the club's third-highest expenditure on a player under the age of 20 and its tenth-highest expenditure overall.

10. Wayne Rooney (Man Utd to Everton, €37 million, 2004)

9. Luke Shaw ($37.5 million from Southampton to Man Utd in 2014)

8. Fabio Silva ($40 million, 2020, from Porto to Wolves)

7. Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid to Flamengo, €45 million, 2018)

6. Rodrygo (Real Madrid to Santos, €45 million, 2019)

5. Anthony Martial (Monaco to Manchester United, €60 million, 2015)

4. Endrick (Real Madrid to pay Palmeiras €72 million by 2024)

3. Matthijs de Ligt (Juventus to Ajax, €85 million, 2019)

2. Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid to Benfica, €126 million, 2019)

1. Kylian Mbappe (Monaco to PSG, 180 million euros, 2017)
