John Terry, a former Chelsea player, responded on social media to a supporter who advised him not to join Frank Lampard's coaching staff and criticized his coaching career.
Yesterday, just over two years after he was fired from the same position, Lampard was named Chelsea's interim manager through the end of the current campaign.
There has been much conjecture about who would join his backroom team, but according to journalist Matt Law, the Englishman will work with Joe Edwards, Ashley Cole, and Chris Jones through the remainder of the campaign.
It means Terry, his former teammate and captain, will not be coaching, which has delighted one fan who expressed his thoughts on Terry's coaching career on Twitter.
I'm thrilled that Lamps is back and am looking forward to the back room appointments, tweeted Twitter user @bluedaze65. JT, however, should not be included in that list.
"Club legend, but too much golf and too little coaching expertise to justify inclusion. Barrack-room bombast is no longer acceptable.
Terry was eager to respond and defend his credentials, having played in over 700 games with the Blues.
Why did he say that?
According to the Mail (via GiveMeSport), Terry's response was as follows: "Lazy remark. I possess all the credentials necessary to coach at the highest level in the game.
"spent three years at Villa, won promotion to the Premier League, and continually developed players and people.Oh, and throughout the course of 17 years, I played at the highest level for some of the best coaches in the game.
Currently, the tweet has been removed.
He didn't delete his second response, which read: "Lamps' return to Chelsea is also great news for everyone." I'm aware of how it all works; Frank has his team, and if I had a job, I'd have mine.
I won't put up with foolish talk. Our best player in our history, Lamps, is just what we needed. Frank Super.
