Frank Lampard made his Premier League debut with eight academy players during his first spell at Chelsea between 2019 and 2021. Mason Mount, Reece James, Tino Anjorin, Tariq Lamptey, Billy Gilmour, Armando Broja, Marc Guehi and Ian Maatsen have both received Chelsea. Frank Lampard's debut. It's part of Gaffer's achievement, 44, as a manager as young players have flourished under him.

In his second return as interim Chelsea manager, most of the players with whom Frank Lampard made his senior debut were no longer in the squad.

Of these eight players, Mason Mount, Reece James and Armando Broja remain in the Chelsea first team while Ian Maatsen and Tino Anjorin are currently on loan at Burnley and Huddersfield respectively. However, the West London club have permanently sold the remaining 3 people in the past transfer windows. Last summer, Billy Gilmour permanently left Chelsea to join Brighton and Hove Albion after Thomas Tuchel deemed the Scottish midfielder to be redundant. He had to leave Stamford Bridge so he could play elsewhere.

The West London team also sold Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace. The England international moved to Crystal Palace permanently at the start of last season while Tariq Lamptey also left the west London club. Other Academy players who have flourished under Frank Lampard but have now left Chelsea are Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori, who are currently at Roma and AC Milan.

Liverpool boss targeting 'smart recruitment' this summer as he aims to dramatically speed up rebuilding at Anfield

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp during a training session at AXA Training Center on March 30, 2023

Jurgen Klopp believes 'smart recruitment' could be the catalyst to get Liverpool back in the running for top trophies as the crucial summer transfer window approaches.

However, the Reds boss has ruled out making any sweeping changes to his squad as the club continue to evaluate a number of options in the market later this year.

Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham remains the club's main target this summer, with the Bundesliga side ready to demand a fee in excess of £100m for an England international who is also attracting interest. Centers are reported from Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Chelsea duo Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount are also being considered in the recruitment department while Wolverhampton Wanderers Portugal international Matheus Nunes is another who has been watched.

The midfielder remains a priority for Klopp and his team this summer as Liverpool look to put an unpleasant season behind them, regardless of their finish in the Premier League. Liverpool have established themselves as one of the wisest operators in the transfer market over the past five years and Klopp believes his side can return to the heights they typically reach between 2019 and 2022 if they can make some of the same smart purchases. in the next window.

"The difference is that whatever we do next year will never be enough from everyone's point of view and from your (media) point of view," Klopp said. "But yes, with smart hiring, we'll improve - for sure. That's the plan.

"It was one of those times that was really bad when I wasn't a native because I couldn't explain it better in English. You enter this vortex and it pulls you in this direction. And suddenly it's like:

'Well, where are we?'

"I'm not a worse coach than last year, certainly not. That doesn't mean the results are good enough, not at all. But I'm not worse - and the players aren't worse. They are. just played worse." Certainly so.

"We can't make 24 changes [this summer] and say 'let's start' - not even 10 - but we just have to make changes - smart changes - and then they We have other times when we think about what will happen next year, but now is not the time."

Klopp made six changes in Tuesday night's goalless draw against Chelsea as the Reds ended a streak of three consecutive defeats in all competitions. Virgil van Dijk was ill but the coach also ruled out Andy Robertson, Harvey Elliott, Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Trent Alexander-Arnold as a very different side fought to reclaim a point at Stamford Bridge.

When asked specifically about Alexander-Arnold's absence, Klopp added:

"He was one of six but [letting him out] drew [more] attention to him? He wasn't as good or as consistent as he used to be, like every other boy. For Trent, it's the same, no difference.

"Do you want me to say he played a world-class season and kicked him out? That's nonsense. No, nobody plays at the level we've seen and at the level we've seen. I know it's possible." For a few moments, yes, of course, great games, great games, great situations but still no one, no. So are you.
