Manchester United hosted Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United won 2-0 over Everton on Saturday to cement their place in the top four this season. Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial were among the targets to take down a brave Toffees side, and Express Sport tells you four things we learned from the Premier League encounter...

Rashford has a serious injury

Marcus Rashford has been United's mainstay this season with 28 goals in all competitions, so Ten Hag will understandably worry when he stops clutching his groin in the final stages of Saturday's win.

As the Reds' main source of strength on the pitch, his influence could become vital as United pursue their goals of finishing in the top four and more trophies before the season ends. Fans now face the thrill of waiting to know the extent of the injury.

Ten Hag's move pays off

The United manager made a series of decisions earlier this season when he dropped Jadon Sancho from the first team. The former Borussia Dortmund star has been training on his own for several weeks as Ten Hag removed him from the limelight, he has had a slow start to life since signing with the Red Devils in a £73million deal Older brother.

The move will pay off as Sancho puts on one of his best performances at United on Saturday. Sticking to the ball and keeping an eye on clever passes around the box, Ten Hag allowed the Englishman to play to his strengths and it was Sancho's pass that helped Scott McTominay open the scoring. Pickford auditions

Although Everton deservedly lost at Old Trafford, it was a display of spirit and courage from Sean Dyche, who immediately spearheaded the fight against United and saved several early opportunities.

Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford scored two goals all game after the opening whistle but it could have been more, with Everton's attack keeping them exposed throughout the game. Pickford is rumored to be of interest to United, who will replace David De Gea this summer, and his performances this weekend will make him even more admired behind the scenes.

Sir Alex Ferguson was right

Legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson recently said with certainty that he does not see Marcus Rashford as a central striker. Either way, that didn't stop Ten Hag from trying his hand at Everton, with the young Red Devils product taking the top spot while Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial sat on the bench. While not a lousy performance, Rashford lacked the advantage that fans are accustomed to starting on the left. Not surprisingly, the 25-year-old made a big contribution when he was pushed back, passing the ball to Martial to double the lead for the home team.
