Anthony Martial's first Premier League goal of 2023 helped Manchester United win over Everton on Saturday at Old Trafford.

A combination of poor finishing, controversial decisions and a series of saves from Jordan Pickford left visitors Sean Dyche out of sight at Old Trafford late in the first half. The Reds scored a stunning 21 shots in a one-way opening, but Scott McTominay was the only player to score in the net, and that was after Everton's Ellis Simms squandered a delicious chance at the top. across. The visitors improved after the break but Erik ten Hag's men took control, and substitute Anthony Martial won 2-0 as Marcus Rashford capitalized on a Seamus Coleman error.

Elsewhere, Frank Lampard's comeback failed as Chelsea lost goalless 0-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon at Molineux Stadium. Matheus Nunes' beautiful goal gave the home team another lifeline and plunged Chelsea into chaos. The Blues, with their third coach of the season after Graham Potter was sacked last Sunday, turned to Frank Lampard on Thursday to redeem their lousy season. However, it was an important victory for Wolves in the relegation battle, as the victory lifted them four points from the bottom group to 12th, just one place behind the Blues.

An Italian report has suggested that Inter Milan are ready to part ways with Italy international Nicola Barella and Liverpool are interested.

Liverpool continue to monitor Nicolo Barella and they could sign him from Inter Milan for as little as £44m.

That's according to CalcioMercatoWeb, who claim Inter may be ready to part ways with the Italy international this summer for a fee of at least 50 million euros.

The report said the move came after Barella's "slightly disappointing performance" and "disagreements on the field with teammates". Inter face Benfica in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday but have no advantage in Serie A, sitting fifth and about 23 points behind champions Napoli.

CalcioMercatoWeb went on to say that Liverpool and Chelsea are 'watching' Barella, who has scored six goals and eight assists in 38 games in all competitions this season. The 26-year-old, who helped his country win Euro 2020, has a contract until 2026, and it was previously thought he would need a much larger offer for Inter to consider selling. .

Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports last month:

“I think he is probably one of the best players in Europe playing in central midfield on the right wing. He plays box-to-box, he scores from there.

"We've seen how special he is to his national team winning the European Championship.

"He's a player who can open things up, he gets in there, but that good inside position is now very important in football and can you run from that position?" He runs in front of the striker. And he is a big goal threat.

"Any top team needs goals from midfield. It would be really interesting if he actually stayed at Inter, but you think one day he'll go to the Premier League or one of the the spanish giant because i definitely think he has the ability to do it.

Carragher, an Anfield legend, is not the only one to admire Barella.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who will be looking to strengthen his midfield this summer, has also made clear his feelings about the player. Speaking ahead of last season's Champions League match against Inter, Klopp said:

"He's a very good player, a very good player and I like him a lot. He has everything you would expect from a midfielder:

he's aggressive, he's technical, he can run for hours and all that. He's a top player."
