Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed what caretaker manager Frank Lampard did to encourage Chelsea players upon his return to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard has just taken over as manager of the Blues, where he has a historic playing career, replacing the interim Graham Potter.

The Blues, 11th in the Premier League table and losing their first game under the Englishman on Saturday, have had a lousy season.

Koulibaly, who moved from Italian side Napoli to Stamford Bridge in the summer, has highlighted what the former Everton boss has done to change the mood at Chelsea.

Koulibaly told The Times: "When you change managers, it's like you've failed somewhere." "We will give everything, and you have to keep fighting."

We have to support our new manager because he is a famous legend. We know we can and will improve.

"[He] gave a great speech and worked really hard to interact and talk to people.

"I know it's tough when you have so many players like us," he said, "but he's really motivated and really pushes us."

Koulibaly also paid tribute to the former Potter coach, who took over from Thomas Tuchel in September but held the job for less than seven months.

"I texted him," the Senegal defender added. "He helped me a lot. At first it was difficult for me to change countries and move things after eight years in Napoli and I can say thank you to him." Graham will have a bright future.
