Aaron Ramsdale may have raised Arsenal's Premier League hopes with two incredible saves against Liverpool on Sunday. The England international left fans at Anfield speechless, with Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher exclaiming in surprise that he saved both goals.
Arsenal looked set to win at Anfield after 28 minutes as they were 2-0 down. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he shot past Brazilian team-mate Alisson after a clumsy clearance from Virgil van Dijk.
Gabriel Jesus then doubled his team's lead with a header from close range as Arsenal dominated Merseyside before Mohamed Salah halved the lead at half-time. Liverpool then bounced back in the second half, with Roberto Firmino leveling the score with three minutes remaining.
Jurgen Klopp then had his chance to win when it was declared six minutes of stoppage time, and Ramsdale was the hero in those brief moments.
The goalkeeper scored twice in the closing minutes, ensuring Mikel Arteta's side left Anfield with a point to ensure Manchester City didn't receive almighty morale boost.
Salah almost made up for the penalty missed in the earlier second half of the game when he received the ball at the edge of the box and shot straight into the top corner. The shot missed Gunners defender Gabriel, although Ramsdale rushed into action to get every finger on the ball and deflect the shot from a high angle. As a result, Sky Sports commentators Neville and Carragher heaped praise on the former Bournemouth star, although they ran out of words shortly after when Ibrahima Konate should have scored.
After a straight pass into Arsenal's goal, Konaté came down the line but struggled to decide how to convert the chance into a goal. The France international slipped down the pitch to try to get the ball home, although Ramsdale dived to recover the ball.
When asked about the saves after the game, the 24-year-old said:
"That's why I'm here. I enjoyed playing today. There's no better game than these, which means a lot to both teams. Unfortunately we couldn't get the three points, but at least my saves helped us.
