Having revealed Kashim Shettima's affiliation with Boko Haram, the self- described disciple of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Simon Ekpa has drawn criticism.
Shettima was seen on Saturday dining with people who seemed to be part of the feared terrorist organization, according to a photo that Simon Ekpa tweeted. Ekpa claims the image was shot in Borno State, the birthplace of Boko Haram, during the group's earliest stages.
Ekpa' s tweet read; " Before you arrest @PeterObi, here is the vice president-elect. Shettima with Boko Haram at the early stage of their terrorism, you elected him and turn around with Igbophobia against Obi. Here they are, eating national food, their ASAMBODO FOOD called SUYA. Here is the real religious war founder.
Another picture was also revealed, in which Femi Fani-Kayode, a party official and spokesman for the governing All Progressives Party (APC) presidential campaign committee, claimed that Shettima had founded the terrorist organization Boko Haram in 2017.
Several Nigerians accused Simon Ekpa of employing novel strategies to lead the Obidients to think that he was opposed to the APC's win in the just completed 2023 presidential election in response to his article.
Remember that Obidients accused Simon Ekpa of supporting his brother Peter Obi of the Labour Party LP while covertly working for the APC and the President-elect.
Facts Check On The Picture
Online rumors have been stoked by a picture purporting to show Kashim Shettima, vice presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, dining with Boko Haram insurgents.
The image depicts the former governor of Borno State dining on a mat beside five guys who seem like Fulani nomads.
Using Google's reverse image search, it was determined that the picture had been online since November 2017. Some comments on the image have claimed that Shettima was eating with Boko Haram militants, who have terrorized Nigeria's northeast and killed hundreds of people.
Denial Of The Claims
The photograph was taken when the governor met with some nomadic (Mbororo) Fulani parents in Borno, according to a statement by accused former staffer to the senator, I. A. Ningi.
Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna Central Senatorial District who supported Shettima, said that it was malicious to associate Shettima to Boko Haram.
