Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, feels that his performances this season have done him "justice," but he is convinced that he won't be content until he plays in every game.
Maguire has unceremoniously fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford this season after being one of the first names on the teamsheet under the previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Erik ten Hag has preferred a Lisandro Martinez-Raphael Varane partnership and will frequently turn to Victor Lindelof from the bench if he wants an extra layer of defensive protection.
After the embarrassing 4-0 loss to Brentford in August, Maguire was benched, and he hasn't started back-to-back Premier League games since.
After playing the full 90 minutes of the weekend's 2-0 victory over Everton, he remarked, "This year I believe I am in a good place psychologically, physically, and every time I've started a game of football, I've done myself justice and done well."
"I won't stand here and declare that I adore it or that I simply adore it. I don't," he replied when asked about his current predicament. "I've been playing in every game for the last eight years of my career, and I still want to. Also, I have to accept the manager's choices and the fierce competition at center defense in this club. I firmly believe that it is.
Maguire has already won one Carabao Cup this year, but he still has his sights set on two more as United pursue the FA Cup and Europa League. Additionally, he projects "many beginnings" for the remainder of 2022–2033.
I'm sure I'll get many starts between now and the conclusion of the season, so I'll work as hard as I can in training and take each game as it comes, he said.
It's not like I haven't begun. Before to the break for international play, I started the final two games against Fulham and Betis. It's not like I've been excluded or excluded myself. I still play in a lot of games, but as a football player, I certainly want to participate in every game. Yet the manager can't use all four, as I'm sure every other center-back in the locker room does as well.
