Arsenal continually allowed Liverpool to attack down Trent Alexander-flank, Arnold's and Gary Neville once more questioned the right-back.
In order to avoid jeopardizing his future chances of playing for England, Trent Alexander-Arnold must set aside his desire to play as a midfielder and concentrate on not becoming a "liability" defensively.
Gary Neville, a former captain of both England and Manchester United who is now a Sky Sports commentator, expressed this opinion after being displeased by Alexander-defensive Arnold's mistakes against Arsenal.
Gabriel Martinelli, who had earlier opened the scoring for Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, crossed from the left for Gabriel Jesus to head in Arsenal's second, catching the Liverpool right-back off guard.
Alexander-Arnold would make apologies by assisting Roberto Firmino in the 2-2 draw and providing him with his sixth Premier League assist (only Steven Gerrard has more with seven).
Neville, who has frequently questioned Alexander-defensive Arnold's prowess for England and Liverpool, claims that the forward's error-filled defensive performances cannot be covered up by his offensive prowess.
Neville noted on his Sky Sports podcast that "he was absolutely sensational moving forward."
He plays defense so poorly that I'm at a loss for words these days.
"Some of the positions he adopts to defend a straight pass against Martinelli are schoolboy defending.
"I can't figure it out. Nonetheless, some of his aggressive play, deliveries, and bravery to get the ball in spite of those errors must be applauded. He has my highest respect.
"He doesn't have to develop into the world's top defender. He just cannot pose a risk. With the way he attacks, he need not be a strong defender. Nobody, in my opinion, is requesting that.
"Just a little competence and focus on your task are all you're asking. About him, the conversation will go on.
"I'm hoping that throughout the course of the summer he realizes that his defensive behavior is not helping him.
"He feels aggrieved since he wasn't selected for the England team. How can a team representing England ignore tremendous talent?
