Arsenal transfer director Edu could get a high-quality player this summer, but the pursuit could depend on favors from Thomas Tuchel.

Arsenal could sign a versatile midfielder this summer as Ryan Gravenberch continues to struggle through minutes at Bayern Munich. With his playing style comparable to that of Real Madrid star Federico Valverde, Gravenberch will be watched by Gunners sporting director Edu ahead of the possibility of being eliminated.

Amsterdam-born Gravenberch promoted with Ajax and became their youngest player in 2018, beating Clarence Seedorf's previous record of making his first-team debut at the age of 16.

This year 20 years old, the 1m69 tall midfielder has been with Bayern Munich since last summer but the transfer did not go as planned. With just one Bundesliga start at the end of the season, Gravenberch may want to explore options that give him regular game time in the summer.

According to Sky Germany, Arsenal are among the teams monitoring his situation. But for this decision to bear fruit, Edu must first get the green light from new Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel.

It is believed that negotiations are yet to take place, but efforts to move to Gravenberch could intensify in the coming weeks. The youngster, once hailed as one of Ajax's next key players, has played just 324 minutes in the league this season. Slim, adventurous and goal-oriented, Gravenberch has many of the midfield qualities that top managers crave and a playing style similar to that of Jude Bellingham or Valverde.

The latter has taken his game to the next level with Real Madrid this season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions as they try to retain their Champions League crown. While Valverde or Bellingham will likely have to pay a hefty sum to suitors this summer, Gravenberch may not be that expensive.

Bayern will make a big coup by paying just £16m for the Dutchman, who has made 11 caps for the national team. While the German giants are keen to make a profit, Arsenal may not be required to pay a hefty fee to make sure all parties are satisfied. Federico Valverde

Manchester United have also had a close relationship with Gravenberch in the past, and it remains to be seen whether manager Erik ten Hag will find a way to reunite with the player at the end of the campaign, who have been together spent many seasons at Ajax.

After signing for Bayern, the Dutch star shed some light on his decision:

"Manchester United is a very big and beautiful club. But I had a very good feeling at Bayern and I promised them."
