Manchester United are said to be one of the few clubs "ready to attack" Adrien Rabiot, who is set to become a free agent this summer.

The United midfielder was, in his day, one of the strongest in the Premier League. Bruno Fernandes is a top player, and the signings of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have strengthened that area on the pitch a lot.

However, the players behind them in pecking order weren't exactly at the same level. While Fred, Scott McTominay and Marcel Sabitzer are good options to fill, there is a clear gap between starters and them. Therefore, United bringing in another star midfield to compete with them will strengthen the whole team.

This seems to be what they are prepared to do. Indeed, Italian outlet Tutto Juve reports that United are one of the few teams 'preparing to attack' for Juventus midfielder Rabiot.

They will obviously face competition from Newcastle United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. It's not hard to see why any of these teams would want to sign Rabiot, especially since he will be a free agent this summer. The Frenchman has played 24 of Juventus' 29 matches this season, missing some due to injury. In those games, he scored eight goals and provided three assists - by far the best comeback of his career.

It can still improve, as there is still a good part of the season left. Trying to sign a player this way without paying a transfer fee may seem like a no-brainer.

Tutto Juve reports that Rabiot's contract will be worth 10-15 million euros (about £8.5-13 million). Any team interested in landing quarterbacks will depend on who arranges the best package.

United are linked with quite a few players for the summer, which shows they are willing to spend.

Thus, it is certainly possible for them to fall into Rabiot's trap. If they do, it could mean the end of one Old Trafford player - McTominay.

The Scot is said to have told United he 'would like to leave' if pushed down any further. Therefore, a new midfield signing could 'force him out'.

However, a recent report suggests that United still considers him a "valuable member of the team". As such, they have valued him at £50 million.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see what happens if Rabiot signs or if McTominay's ultimatum affects this potential deal. However, given his current form, the Frenchman seems to be the most useful asset.
