Carlo Ancelotti responds to Chelsea job rumour ahead of the Champions League rematch

Carlo Ancelotti's future is being speculated about as a result of Real Madrid's disappointing LaLiga season, with some predicting that the Italian will take over at Chelsea in the summer.

Despite being linked with a return to Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti has kept insisting he will stay at Real Madrid for the final year of his contract.

The Italian spent two years at Stamford Bridge, where he led the Blues to their first ever domestic double in his first season in charge. They won the Premier League and the FA Cup in 2010, but he was fired after finishing second the following season.

He has since won league titles with PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid, as well as the Champions League twice with the latter. However, speculation about his future is growing following a disappointing season for Los Blancos in LaLiga.

Ancelotti is preparing Real Madrid for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Chelsea on Wednesday, with the Blues led by interim manager Frank Lampard until a permanent appointment is made in the summer.

Former manager Ancelotti is one of the men being touted to succeed Lampard. However, the Madrid coach has stated that he wishes to remain in Spain while his son and assistant coach Davide pursues his coaching credentials.

"We believe we can win, despite the fact that each game is a difficult, tough, and unpredictable challenge." That's how The Champions is. "All eight teams want to make it to the final in Istanbul," he said on Rai Radio 1.

"What is Carlo Ancelotti's future?" There is a nice saying that applies to this situation: the wind takes the chatter. And, yes, I have a contract until June 30, 2024, which I intend to honor.

"He [Davide] is finishing the UEFA Pro coaching course in Wales and will be able to coach any type of team by May. It will not be Basel because they are happy here and we want to stay. I believe he will do well when the time comes to begin working on his account."

Joe Cole, a former Blues player who won the double with Ancelotti in 2010, has backed his former manager's candidacy for the Chelsea job. The retired midfielder thinks the Italian should be at the top of the list for the summer job.

"There is one man who is very active right now, and that is Carlo Ancelotti." If I were the owner of a football club, he would be the first appointment I would make to steady the ship and win trophies," he told BT Sport.

"The last time Chelsea won the league, they finished 10th the previous season." The club has a history of going through these dry spells before it all comes together.

"It was chaos (at Chelsea at times), you knew if you had a second or third bad result in a row, you knew a new manager would be looking at you with new ideas any day now, so you're never comfortable as a player."
