Thomas Tuchel, the coach of Bayern Munich, admitted to having spent many sleepless nights before the team's match against Manchester City in the Champions League.

On Tuesday night, the Bundesliga side headed to the Etihad Stadium to face former manager Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in their first Champions League quarter-final.

Thomas Tuchel, the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League winner with Chelsea, returns to England for the first time since being sacked in September 2022.

The former Chelsea boss has had mixed records at home since taking over the Bundesliga side replacing Julian Nagelsmann last month, beating co-title rivals Borussia Dortmund but losing in the quarter-finals of the DFB - Pokal.

The upcoming match against Manchester City has weighed so heavily on 49-year-old coach Thomas Tuchel's mind that he struggles to get a good night's sleep. Tuchel had only beaten Pep Guardiola's men three times in his previous ten encounters; His last win over Guardiola came in 2021 when Chelsea beat Man City in the Champions League final, the first of three trophies won by the German in 20 months at Stamford Bridge.

Before Tuchel's departure, Guadiola's Manchester City had beaten Chelsea twice in the Premier League, but they had not faced Bayern since November 2014, when Manuel Pellegrini's side beat the Bundesliga side 3-2 to qualify for the knockout round.

Thomas Tuchel discussed his preparations for the game at the Etihad during his pre-match press conference with UEFA.com, and he revealed

"I'll try to go to bed early. I hope I can. The best preparation is to sleep, but sometimes it's hard to sleep when you're thinking about everything. This morning I got up very early and decided to go to the training ground because I couldn't get back to sleep. I can't stop thinking about the game."

The Bayern Munich boss has revealed a strategy to keep Erling Haaland, who was the star of the match in the second leg as he beat German side RB Leipzig 8-1 on aggregate five times in the previous round. .

"Of course, Erling Haaland's style is unique and they've adapted to incorporate that." He gave them something they hadn't had in years. We have to do it as a team. We'll have the role of the outsider, and that's fine. “We have to be confident and keep our best form,” said Tuchel.
