The ideal situation for Los Blancos manager Carlo Ancelotti would be a Real Madrid against Milan final in Istanbul.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to play Milan in the Istanbul Champions League final.
In the quarterfinals of the championship, Los Blancos take on Chelsea, and Milan prepares to play Napoli in an all-Italian match.
Due to Chelsea's dismal season, Madrid will be the favorite versus the Premier League team.
The situation is different for Milan because Napoli has dominated their Serie A rivals this season, but they will have Ancelotti's support.
Ancelotti told Rai Radio 1 when asked what he said to Paolo Maldini during a recent phone contact with the former defender: "It was mostly a desire for Milan, a team I support.
"In actuality, the Milan-Napoli game will be quite evenly matched and unpredictable.
"Would a meeting in Istanbul be nice? Indeed, I believe for Milan as well as Madrid, but everyone wants to reach Istanbul."
Ancelotti expressed his desire to face Maldini in the championship game in his pre-match press conference prior to the first leg of the quarterfinal match against Chelsea. This was especially true given that the pair's 2005 final loss to Liverpool in Istanbul left them with a bad impression of the host city.
Ancelotti continued, "Paolo and Istanbul is not a good recollection, especially in 2005." I have the utmost affection for Maldini because he has served as both my captain and my partner, and it would be ideal if we could meet on my birthday, which falls on the day of the championship game.
For Milan, the match against Napoli is an opportunity to build on their recent humiliation of the unstoppable Serie A leaders in a match that will undoubtedly be charged with emotion.
Ancelotti noted that as a result, pre-game motivational speeches are not necessary, and pre-game discussions should just be tactical.
