John Dramani Mahama is a Ghanaian politician and businessman who served as the fourth President of the Republic of Ghana between 2012 and 2016. Born on November 29, 1958, in Damongo, a small town in West Gonja in the Northern Region of Ghana, he started his education at the Achimota School in 1971, where he studied up to the Advanced Level.

Mahama then proceeded to the University of Ghana to pursue a bachelor's degree in History in 1981. He continued his education at the Institute of Social Sciences in Moscow, where he earned a postgraduate degree in Social Psychology in 1986. Later, he attended the same institute to earn a master's degree in Communication Studies in 1988.

Mahama entered politics in 1996 when he contested as a Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi constituency in the Northern Region of Ghana. He won the seat and was reelected among the few Ghanaian politicians who have run for and won a seat in parliament on four consecutive occasions. Mahama served as the Deputy Minister of Communication for the Ghanaian government from 1997 to 2001.

Mahama became the President of Ghana in 2012 after he won the presidential election as the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). During his tenure as president, he implemented various policies to develop the country's infrastructure, improve access to education and healthcare, and tackle corruption.

His administration implemented the free Senior High School policy, which granted access to secondary education to over 1.2 million Ghanaians. The government also implemented various infrastructure projects such as the construction of new roads, hospitals, and other vital public facilities.

Despite the positive strides of his administration, John Dramani Mahama lost his bid for reelection in 2016 to Nana Akufo-Addo. He then formed the Coalition for Democratic Change party and contested again in the 2020 election. Unfortunately, he lost his second bid for presidency to the incumbent Nana Akufo-Addo.

In conclusion, John Dramani Mahama was a transformative president who positively impacted Ghana's growth and development. His contribution to the free Senior High School policy and the development of the country's infrastructure will forever be remembered.
