According to sources who spoke to 90min, Liverpool won't try to force through a trade for Jude Bellingham this summer.
Bellingham has long been Liverpool's top transfer target, but with Borussia Dortmund's high asking price for the English midfielder, a deal to acquire him this summer seems beyond what they were ready to do.
Dortmund made their willingness to sell known earlier this year, according to 90min, but a deal would cost at least €150 million, exceeding their current club record sale of €144 million for Ousmane Dembele in 2017.
In recent months, Bellingham has heard arguments from Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester City that they all deem to be compelling.
He is scheduled to meet with Dortmund in April to talk about his options for the future, which, as 90min disclosed earlier this season, include the possibility of remaining with the team for an additional year.
Bellingham is under contract with Dortmund until 2025, and as such, they are willing to give him the highest salary in club history in exchange for including a release clause that would allow him to leave for substantially less than his market value, similar to how Erling Haaland stayed before joining Manchester City last summer.
Bellingham is expected to make a decision, but if he were to depart this summer, Real or City would be his only two options. One of the biggest contracts in football history would be approved by both parties.
While they would be able to match any offer, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also gotten in touch with Bellingham's representatives. However, 90min is aware that neither club is currently being considered as a viable option for Bellingham to move to.
He has been informed that "all bets would be off" for 2024 if he chooses to sign a new contract with a release clause and stay at Dortmund for an additional year. Liverpool and possibly Manchester United, who have remained in the background during this process and have kept an eye on the issue, would likely be involved in the race once more.
