John Mahama, a former president, has renewed his criticism of the government's request for debt relief.
Mr. Mahama has taken off his toga of patriotism, claiming that the Akufo-Addo government's move to pursue debt forgiveness will have an impact on future generations.
He claims that he strongly disagrees with the government's choice because it would have an impact on future generations since the international institutions that currently lend to Ghana will stop doing so.
When speaking to NDC delegates in Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region on his three-day campaign visit of the area, which starts today, Mr. Mahama made this statement.
He stated, "We (Ghana) have filed for bankruptcy, claiming that we are unable to pay our bills." As a result, our minister of finance is pleading with everyone to forgive us some of our debts as well as mine.
He claimed, "I tell the young people that it will have an impact on you." Because you'll need money for development initiatives when you become president or a member of parliament tomorrow. Others will claim that because your father and his family members borrowed money from us and didn't pay it back, we are refusing to provide it to you.
He said, "If you borrowed money and didn't pay it back when you went to ask for some more, would they give it to you?" Ghanaians are looking to you (NDC Members) to save them from the current economic suffering of the Akufo-Addo government, so Mahama asks them, and they say "no," they won't. He continues, "Therefore Ghanaians are looking up to you (NDC members).
After 66 years of independence, according to Mr. Mahama, Ghana is today bankrupt as a result of the terrible economic policies of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government. He said that Ghanaians are only looking up to the NDC.
In addition, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, and other members of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration were attacked by the former president Mahama.
He claims that the Vice President and other members of this government's Economic Management Team are currently evading accountability for the poor handling of Ghana's economy.
"They are acting like they are not a part of it. They're all "dey, dey inside." "All of them have contributed to the disaster we are in," he continued.
Since Vice President Bawumia mentioned that Professor Gyan Baffour, Alan Kyerematen, Honorable Osafo-Maafo, and Ken Ofori-Atta were on the Economic Management Team, "What a strong squad," Mahama said in Bawumia's impersonation voice.
This squad is strong. The strong staff has helped us get to this point, the former president continued.
