Dayot Upamecano's performance against Manchester City was called "the worst performance ever in the Champions League".
City have advanced to the semi-finals of the Champions League following a 3-0 quarter-final first leg win over Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
Rodri put Pep Guardiola's side ahead by opening their Champions League accounts in stunning style before Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland scored in the second half, where more goals could easily have been scored.
Upamecano started at the heart of Bayern's defence alongside Matthijs De Ligt, but has been shaky the entire time.
The France international had a rough start to the clash when he slipped as Jack Grealish ran towards him and he never recovered. Haaland regularly outplays him in their duels and his passes from behind are less impressive, with the former RB Leipzig man cheaply losing the ball in areas important under pressure.
He nearly scored Grealish's goal in a strange combination with goalkeeper Yann Sommer early in the second half, but was then penalized for too much touch in City's second goal.
Grealish pinched the ball from him before passing it to Haaland, who generously passed the ball to Bernardo Silva's header for a second from the far corner.
In the third goal, Upamecano could not hide his glory when he was caught red-handed when Haaland cushioned the ball wide of John Stones' post.
He has been widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the business and started the World Cup final for France against Argentina. But his reaction has dropped a lot here and the 24-year-old has enjoyed a good social media attachment.
One fan wrote:
"If Upamecano can be a footballer, you can be anything you want to be."
Another opinion:
"All the good work that Upamecano did to rebuild his reputation this season was wiped out overnight. Shades of Varane v City a few seasons ago. Kamikaze."
Third offense:
"If it was the Powerleague, you would ask Upamecano if he wants to be in the net for five minutes. Just to lessen the advantage a little bit."
The fourth added:
"Upamecano had a bad game against Man City. Alone completely destroyed his team's CL hopes."
One end user joked:
"Upamecano would be on the bench for Phil Jones if they were to play together for a Championship club.
New Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has been frank about Upamecano's disqualification, admitting: "He made too many mistakes and there were 'two or three situations where he lacked concentration'.
The Bavarians have the difficult task of turning the tables in the quarter-final second leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.
