Chelsea's struggling £89m winger Mykhailo Mudryk told to follow Vinicius Junior example to become a 'leader' at Stamford Bridge

Struggling Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been encouraged by former Blues star Florent Malouda to emulate Vinicius Jr. of Real Madrid.

Mudryk has been disappointing since moving in in January

Malouda thinks the winger could be Chelsea's 'leader'

But should simulate the gameplay on real star Vinicius

WHAT HAPPENED? The Ukraine international turned down Arsenal in favor of the west London club in one of the January transfer window stories, in a blockbuster deal worth £89 million ($111 million) . However, in 11 appearances since signing for the Blues - including six as a starter - Mudryk has failed to meet his exorbitant price tag, scoring just one assist in his time. During that time, his best performance was coming on from the bench. Liverpool in January.

WHAT DID THEY SAY:

Malouda - who has won numerous trophies at Chelsea, including the Champions League and Premier League - believes the Ukrainian should take inspiration from Madrid superstar Vinicius to reach his full potential. He told ICE 36:

“He [Mudryk] is very talented. When he debuted, he looked very impressed when he walked in. I think he comes into this game fresh, full of confidence and we can all see his huge potential. My message is, you have accepted the challenge of playing for Chelsea, a big club, but look at the example of Vinicius Jr.

"I think it's a good comparison and also a good example for him to follow. For reference, he should see how he has developed. I think Mudryk can have the same impact for Chelsea as Vinicius for Madrid. He has to work hard, have the right mentality - he can be a leader in the Chelsea team if he shows the right ambition. I hope he believes in himself as much as the club believes in him.

BIGGEST IMAGES:

While Vinicius quickly became one of Madrid's standout players, his debut in the Spanish capital was slow, the Brazilian was often criticized for his poor finishing and said overall lack of end product. But despite a series of struggles, including repeated racist abuse this season, Vinicius has quickly established himself as one of the best players in the world, a target that Mudryk is definitely looking forward.

AND THEN ? Mudryk will have the chance to prove himself on the biggest stage, as well as witness Vinicius' qualities first-hand, when the Blues travel to Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. Real holders will support each other to hurt an underperforming Chelsea side, although the Blues have received support from Mason Mount, N'Golo Kante and more recently Thiago Silva.
