This evening, the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Usmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, and a few other Islamic leaders broke their fast at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Since President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo invited Muslims to break bread at the Jubilee House as part of the observance of the 30-day Ramadan fast, this is the sixth time Muslims have joined the Vice President at the seat of government. The event is known as Iftar.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the historic event of Iftar at Jubilee House in 2017 demonstrated the value and importance the government placed on religion in its efforts to foster inter-group cooperation.

He said that the month of Ramadan was a time of commitment, sacrifice, and community, and that a similar Iftar gathering was held yearly in the US to encourage religious tolerance.

According to the vice president, this is why the administration observes Iftar, a time when everyone is welcomed to a meal to break their fast and pray to God for the country. This includes Christian brethren.

"We must all be pleased of this remarkable development in a religiously tolerant society," he said, describing such an event as unique when occasionally a Christian clergyman is asked to deliver a sermon at a Muslim celebration and vice versa.

"The peace we enjoy in Ghana is a gift from God, and we must always treasure it," Bawumia, In the final 10 days of Ramadan, he advised Muslims to increase their almsgiving and remember their loved ones in their prayers.

The vice president added that he urged them to pray for continued peace, harmony, and prosperity for the country.

Many members of the diplomatic community, as well as certain members of the Council of State and ministers of state, were present at the occasion.

There were Islamic prayers and Quranic recitations.

Sermon

Sheikh Armiyawo Shaibu, the Chief Imam's spokesperson, defined the evening as a night of power or destiny that is greater and superior than a thousand months in a sermon, noting that fasting was a time that demanded serious meditation.

The power of thankfulness was the subject of his speech.

This year's fast, which started on March 21, 2023, was notable, according to Sheikh Shaibu, who also noted that "God has been good to us and has bestowed his favors upon us by keeping us healthy and alive."

Even the most disadvantaged among us got food to break the fast thanks to God's grace. the cause for which we should praise Allah.

He said, "The peace we have is also a cause to give thanks to Allah."

The spokesman urged all citizens to express appreciation to God for keeping the nation united by quoting from Quran chapter 31 verse 12.

In addition to stating that Muslims had no right to assault Christians, he praised the humility and respect that the leadership of the Christian community had shown the Chief Imam.
