Eddie Nketiah, an attacking midfielder for Arsenal, may be able to play this weekend when the Gunners travel to West Ham in the Premier League.

When Gabriel Jesus sustained an injury earlier this season, Nketiah, who was about to leave Arsenal last summer until agreeing to a new five-year deal less than two weeks before his old one was about to expire, was forced into starting more games.

Jesus' knee injury during Brazil's World Cup campaign rendered Nketiah the sole available "number nine" in the starting lineup.

As a result, when club football began in late December, he started each of Arsenal's first nine Premier League contests. He scored four goals in that stretch of games, including a pair in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United in January.

In the end of February, Leandro Trossard replaced Nketiah in the starting lineup, and he later succumbed to an ankle injury. Trossard has flourished without him, and Jesus has also come back.

But even when not starting Premier League games earlier in the season, Nketiah still had a notable role and appeared off the bench in each of the club’s first 12 league outings.

The 23-year-old has missed seven games in all competitions while recovering his fitness, but was seen back in training on Tuesday of this week and will have had up to five days of sessions under his belt before the Gunners head down to the London Stadium, on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta will have more choices if his team needs a goal with Nketiah back on the bench after Arsenal dropped points late against Liverpool last weekend and Manchester City are now pressing harder than ever for the crown.

While on loan at Reims, Balogun has been in outstanding form, scoring 18 goals in Ligue 1 this season, just one less than Kylian Mbappe. Because of his goal-scoring prowess, many Arsenal supporters are pushing for the 21-year-old to return to the Emirates Stadium in the summer and establish himself as a major member of Mikel Arteta's team.
