Sadio Mane will be out indefinitely after fighting with teammate Leroy Sane, according to Bayern Munich.
When Bayern lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the Champions League, Mane was found to have punched Sane in the locker room, leaving a mark before being hauled away by teammates.
Following an urgent meeting on Wednesday to discuss the incident, the club has now officially announced that Mane will be suspended and punished.
In a statement, it was said that "Sadio Mane, 3, will not be in the FC Bayern lineup for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday." "Mane's misbehavior following FC Bayern's Champions League match at Manchester City is the cause. Mane will also be charged a fine."
It's unclear at this time whether Mane will miss more than one game during his suspension.
Oliver Kahn, the CEO, and Hasan Salihamidzic, the sporting director, were in charge of the discussions regarding a potential sanction for Mane. According to early reports, Bayern Munich was even prepared to sell the Senegal international in the summer as retaliation.
Bayern's punishment as it stands is only a brief ban because Mane is believed to have shown regret for his behavior.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Mane was not compelled to apologize to Sane or the rest of the team and was instead permitted to participate in team training on Thursday morning.
He is currently expelled from the team, though, and manager Thomas Tuchel plans to talk about the punishment during his press conference on Friday.
The defending Bundesliga champions must overcome a three-goal deficit at the Allianz Arena when they play Hoffenheim on Saturday before focusing on the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City. It is not yet known if Mane will play.
During Bayern's 3-0 Champions League quarterfinal first leg loss at Manchester City on Tuesday, the former Liverpool attacker was seen arguing with Sane. According to sources, the former punched Sane after the game, cutting the Germany winger's lip.
