the time and the location . The data zone bundle which offers subscribers a
1-day validity data offer at a purchase point through the shortcode 135 has
temporarily been suspended by the Scancom Group.
In a statement released on Wednesday 12th
April , leading mobile network provider
Scancom PLC (Mtn Ghana) who provides mobile network services for subscribers on
pay as you go ,post paid, pre paid , monthly packages explained the reason for
this move. It stated that the NCA has declared MTN Ghana as Significant Market
Power (SMP) . This happened in June 2020 .
This decision compels MTN not to provide their services at a cheaper rate as compared to other industry players in the country . MTN Ghana in their quest to seek for the benefits of their consumers took the decision to court in June 2020 but Accra High School ruled in favour of the NCA .
This move has got a large number of subscribers on MTN talking as they express their displeasure on the suspension of the innovative incentive from Scancom group with Popular Asakaa Drill Artiste Jay Bhad pleading with mtn to restore back the data zone bundle because of the hardships in the country . The youth had also have a share in voicing out their displeasure on various social media platforms ie. Twitter .
Scancom PLC (mtn Ghana) has come clean here
, by pointing their fingers at the National Communications Authority (NCA )who
were the initiators of his move . MTN has assured its subscribers of
reinstating the innovative incentive as they’re currently in the negotiation process with the regulator and
would be done as soon as possible.
MTN GHANA apologises to its cherished customers to continue to roll out innovative and affordable service and products at affordable rates and apologises for an inconvenience this decision has had on its customers .
