Liverpool are eyeing midfield signings ahead of this summer's transfer window with Bristol City youngster Alex Scott among those in their sights, but the player is priced too high

Liverpool have been told they will need 'an attractive offer' if they want to take Alex Scott out of Bristol City.

The young midfielder has shone at Ashton Gate this season and has attracted a lot of attention in the Premier League. Liverpool's head of recruitment Dave Fallows and chief scout Barry Hunter visited the 19-year-old in the flesh recently when England's Under-20s played Germany.

Scott joined the Guernsey Championship side in 2020 and has been going strong, winning the club's Young Player of the Year award last season. Several top teams need midfield signings and Scott has been identified as a target for West Ham and Wolves. He was at his best in a recent FA Cup tie against Manchester City, after which Pep Guardiola declared him an 'incredible player'. Liverpool are preparing to refresh their options midfield but have been warned that a significant sum of money will be needed - Bristol are eyeing around £25m for the midfielder.

Robins boss Nigel Pearson told Bristol Live:

"For example, Alex Scott is a topic of conversation, every player has a price," Pearson said. "It would have to be an extremely attractive offer for him to leave. I can assure you that Steve (Lansdown, a major shareholder of Bristol City), he doesn't want to sell players for fun. Not on that issue.

"I think Alex Scott has had two very good seasons for us, it's remarkable that he's only 19 years old and he's one of our best and most successful players. More consistent, but for someone to get him out of here, which is going to happen costs a lot of money so we're not going to sell at all, and that's why it's so important to have young players with long-term contracts. .

"If we lose our players, we will only lose them if it means we can facilitate the growth of our team. Managers lose their jobs because you don't win enough numbers. match and you don't have enough achievements. If you want to be successful and be a difficult team to get promoted, you need to have a good enough team. You can't have your cake and eat it, so that's life."

Interest in Scott came after Liverpool pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund. The finances involved in signing Bellingham will take a big chunk of their budget, with the club looking to bring in some new faces rather than a big name.

West Ham are one of the teams that could compete with them - according to the Daily Mail - as the Hammers plan a life without Declan Rice. The England midfielder could leave this summer, leaving a huge hole in midfield. The London side saw Scott play ahead of a possible transfer.
