Rudi Garcia has been sacked as head coach of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.
The 59-year-old has left the Saudi Arabian side following their 0-0 draw against Al Feiha on Sunday, where Ronaldo appeared visibly angry after the result. The Portugal international was seen arguing with opposition players after the draw and stormed down the tunnel.
Al Nassr said of Garcia’s departure: “Al Nassr can announce that head coach Rudi Garcia has left the club by mutual agreement.
“The board and everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Rudi and his staff for their dedicated work during the past eight months.”
Garcia was critical of his players after the match, insisting he wasn’t pleased with their performance levels.
He said: “The result is definitely bad, and we are not happy.
“I don’t feel satisfied with the players’ performance. I asked them to play at the same level as the last game (a 5-0 win over Al-Adalah), but this didn’t happen.
“There are seven games left, we will try to recover, and we realise that it’s not easy after we lost two points, but everything is possible.”
There had been talk of disquiet in the dressing room in recent weeks as well as concerns over the Frenchman’s training methods.
Ronaldo, 38, signed for Al Nassr at the end of December after his contract was terminated by Manchester United following his controversial television interview with Piers Morgan.
He has scored 11 goals and registered two assists in 10 league matches since signing for the club.
Garcia joined Al Nassr in June 2022 and oversaw 16 wins, five draws and two defeats out of 23 Saudi Pro League matches.
Al Nassr are three points off the top of the Saudi Pro League behind Al Ittihad. They are next in action against Al Hilal on Tuesday, April 18.
