Paul Scholes 'worried' about two MU players in the second leg

Paul Scholes says he is a bit worried about Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof starting Manchester United's trip to face Sevilla next week as he once again criticizes Wout Weghorst.

The Reds appeared to be in complete control of the Europa League quarter-final first leg against the Spaniards on Thursday night, with Marcel Sabitzer giving the hosts a two-goal lead at Old Trafford.

But United were beaten by two late own goals and will now draw 2-2 with Sevilla, while Erik ten Hag has a selection nightmare after Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were both injured - the latter seems peculiar. particularly serious.

While Scholes remains confident United will have enough reserves to beat Sevilla in the second leg, centre-backs Maguire and Lindelof are making him a little nervous.

Speaking on BT Sport after the match, he said:

“I think if Lindelof and Maguire worry me a little bit just because they don't play. "I think they'll get through this, I think they'll be fine, centre-back is a position you tend to overlook."

“I think in the future, everything will be fine, Bruno Fernandes [who is suspended] will be a failure, but you have to remember that Christian Eriksen is on his way back, so he is the one to definitely start. , that's the creativity in it.

"I think they can score there, if Anthony Martial is fit and ready to play." Antoine is alive again tonight. They can still go there and win, but you have to respect Sevilla for what they have done in Europe. I would say at this point it's a 50/50 game.

He added:

“I don't think losing Marcus Rashford is as bad as losing Martinez, Bruno and Varane.

“I think we saw Martial tonight looking very sharp in the first half. I think Antony plays better with every game. I still expect a little more from Jadon Sancho. But I think in this top 3 there is still the possibility of scoring.

Scholes also criticized Weghorst's performance against Sevilla, when the Dutchman came on from the bench with half an hour left. A brilliant pass from Facundo Pellistri saw the Uruguayan return the ball to the six-yard box where Weghorst collected it, but the Burnley loanee missed even a quick shot. and an early caution by Anthony Elanga's foot in the vantage point. before passing the ball back to Tyrell Malacia on the edge of the box, who missed the post.

Scholes feels a more clinical striker will do more when given the opportunity, he said:

I think he should turn around and shoot. When you look at the guy on the edge of the box, Malacia, I don't think he's going to score.

“I think a good centre-back, a striker who has really quality [shots]. If he is a Martial, he will try to score, or he will turn quickly and shoot fast and score. He's five, six meters away!
