Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury during Manchester United's clash with Sevilla, leaving the defender in tears.

Entering the Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla, United are looking to continue their winning streak after beating Everton and Brentford in the last two matches.

Meanwhile, Sevilla were threatened with relegation after a poor start to the 22/23 season that resulted in Jorge Sampaoli's sacking.

On Thursday night, Erik ten Hag's men got off to a terrifying start under the floodlights at Old Trafford.

Two goals in the span of seven minutes since signing Marcel Sabitzer in January gave United a 2-0 lead after 21 minutes. Sevilla nearly regained possession just before half-time but David de Gea made a brilliant save to save Tanguy Nianzou.

In the second half, United looked relaxed but Sevilla made a mistake in the 83rd minute after Tyrell Malacia shot wide off the post.

As a result, Jesus Navas was able to stretch the horizontal, the ball was coordinated by Malacia and De Gea to send the ball narrowly across the post.

However, things took a turn for the worse for United and especially for Lisandro Martinez, who was injured.

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One person said:

"Yeah Martinez is over, you can tell by his reaction."

Another person tweeted:

"The Martinez season is over, Achiles is definitely gone."

A third fan added:

"You know it's serious if Martinez sheds tears,"

Another person wrote:

“Well, that was a disaster. Martinez was left in tears with what looked like terrible injury, and Varane was sidelined, missing Rashford after all. This means the season is over.

While a fifth commented:

"Oh no... Martinez. Get well soon, Lisandro. I'm so sad for him, he's in tears.

Sevilla then caused further damage when they equalized late in the 93rd minute when Youssef En Nesyri's header was sent wide by Harry Maguire.

The now painful wait for a diagnosis begins when United return to action this weekend when they take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
