Liverpool set to spark interest in Real Madrid's €100m midfielder – English sources
After deciding to end their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, Liverpool are set to rekindle their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer, Mirror's David Maddock reports.
Liverpool are looking for reinforcements in the midfield and have chased Bellingham the longest. However, earlier this week it was reported that they have decided to end their interest in the English player due to his outrageous price tag.
As they look for alternatives to Bellingham, Liverpool could also try to sign Real Madrid midfielder Tchouameni this summer to bolster their options in the defensive midfield role.
It's no secret that the Red Devils were very interested in signing Tchouameni from AS Monaco last summer. In fact, the report adds that Liverpool even made an offer of £75m (€85m) to the French enforcer.
However, they were outbid by Real Madrid while the midfielder's desire to play at the Santiago Bernabeu turned against them. In the end, Los Blancos signed Tchouameni worth 100 million euros (including additional terms).
The 23-year-old quickly settled into life at Real Madrid and ensured that Casemiro's departure from Manchester United would not happen. However, his form declined in the second half of the season after the World Cup in Qatar. Indeed, Tchouameni has fallen behind compatriot Eduardo Camavinga in terms of recent rankings. And Liverpool could look to capitalize on that by trying to make another move to sign Tchouameni this summer.
The report adds that Real Madrid will need at least €100m (£90m) to consider any possibility of leaving Tchouameni.
However, Real Madrid are unlikely to be ready for any deal involving Tchouameni, who is seen as a key part of the future midfield. He still has more than five years left on his contract and a move seems unlikely as things stand.
