Liverpool want to sign Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer, it has been claimed.
The Red Devils have had a tumultuous season. The club are eighth in the Premier League, about 12 points off the Champions League spot with just nine games left.
Having also long been excluded from all three cup competitions, Liverpool are planning to rebuild their squad this summer.
Of course, this week it was reported that the Reds had ended their pursuit of Jude Bellingham, due to the amount of transfer fee that would be required to sign the 19-year-old England international. Colwill to Liverpool?
The Evening Standard believes that Liverpool and Manchester City are ready to attack Chelsea to win Colwill.
Premier League rivals are said to be preparing to recruit a number of Chelsea academy graduates in the context that the Blues will be forced to sack young players to comply with FFP regulations. Klopp and Man City manager Pep Guardiola want to rejuvenate their defense this summer, after identifying left-footed Colwill as a priority target. Both sides are ready to take on the 20-year-old, who the Evening Standard calls 'the future star of England'.
Colwill has impressed at Brighton this season and is tipped to be called up to the England squad ahead of Euro 2024.
He could also be a transformative presence for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool. Although primarily a centre-back, Colwill is also known to operate at left-back.
Given that Chelsea's youngster is more defensive than Andrew Robertson, the Reds' number one choice, if Klopp lets Colwill play at left-back, he could come on and allow Alexander-Arnold to play 'the full-back role.
