Manchester United injury updates and return dates for Martinez, Varane, and Rashford

Man United have several injury concerns as the season nears its end.

Manchester United's injury woes worsened this week, as defenders Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were forced to leave the game against Sevilla.

The centre-back duo will miss the weekend trip to Nottingham Forest, joining top scorer Marcus Rashford as notable absentees. United may welcome back Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay as they prepare for a hectic end to the season.

The City Ground visit is followed by the second leg in Sevilla next week and an FA Cup semi-final against Brighton. United are currently fourth in the table, three points ahead of Tottenham with a game in hand and a goal difference behind Newcastle. Here is the most recent news from the Old Trafford treatment room.

Lisandro Martinez is a native of Argentina

The defender left the game against Sevilla in pain. The severity of the injury has not been disclosed as United awaits further testing. According to reports in Argentina, the centre-back has broken a metatarsal, but Ten Hag stated on Friday that the situation is not yet clear.

"I can't say right now, but when we have news, we'll let you know," Ten Hag said. "Let's do the medical, a full assessment, a complete diagnosis, nothing changes right now." I have an idea, but I don't spread rumors. It's only been 24 hours, so I don't have a complete diagnosis, so I can't tell you right now."

Varane, Raphael

The France international suffered a foot injury against Sevilla and had to be replaced. It is unknown when the defender will return. "I haven't spoken to Rapha after the game, but it's an injury he's complained about over the last couple of weeks, so we'll see how it is now," Ten Hag said.

Unknown possible return date

McTominay, Scott

Due to an injury, the midfielder missed the game against Sevilla but could return against Forest. The injury to the Scotland international is not serious, and his return would give Ten Hag more options in midfield.

Possible return date: April 16

Marcus Rashford (England)

United announced on Wednesday that Rashford would miss the next few games, beginning with the draw against Sevilla. The attacker was forced off with a groin injury late in Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton. His departure is a setback for United, who have relied heavily on their leading scorer this season. Rashford's 28 goals in all competitions mark his most prolific season to date.
