Al-Nassr have confirmed that Rudi Garcia has left the club by mutual consent, with Cristiano Ronaldo expected to play a key role in the recruitment of his replacement.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent his best wishes to Rudi Garcia following the confirmation of the manager's Al-Nassr departure.

The Frenchman was appointed by the Saudi club less than a year ago, but it was announced on Thursday that he would be leaving by mutual agreement. According to a statement, "Al-Nassr can announce that Head Coach Rudi Garcia has left the Club by mutual agreement."

"The board of directors and everyone at Al-Nassr would like to thank Rudi and his team for their hard work over the last eight months."

Despite the arrival of Ronaldo in January, Garcia leaves Al-Nassr as the title favourites in second place. The 38-year-old signed a contract worth £173 million per year and has 11 goals in his first ten Saudi Pro League games.

Despite the addition of talent, Ronaldo's team has dropped out of first place, trailing Al-Ittihad by three points. Garcia leaves after failing to win two of their last four league games, including a stalemate with Al Feiha last time out.

Following the drab 0-0 draw, Ronaldo vented his rage, ranting at both the opposition and his own teammates. The Portuguese legend stormed down the tunnel, forcing Garcia and his teammates to leave the field without him.

According to reports in Portugal, Ronaldo was dissatisfied with the club's direction under the ex-Lyon manager. According to Diario AS, he expressed his feelings behind the scenes, believing that with a different manager in charge, they could play at a higher level.

However, Ronaldo has publicly paid tribute to his former boss, posting on social media almost immediately after the news broke: "Pleasure to have worked with you. I wish you the best of luck in the future."

His public farewell differs from the one he used after Fernando Santos was fired as Portugal manager following the World Cup. Ronaldo and the veteran manager won the European Championship together, but they had a difficult final major tournament together.

Santos chose to leave Portugal's all-time leading scorer out of the starting lineup in the knockout stages, with his partner Georgina Rodriguez launching an angry tirade after their defeat to Morocco. Although rumors of a rift were denied, Ronaldo chose not to join many of his international colleagues in thanking him for his time as coach of the national team.
