Bayern Munich is holding out hope that they might hand Manchester City the same brutal setback that Pep Guardiola's team dealt them.
After being humiliated by Manchester City, Thomas Tuchel stated Bayern Munich are "thirst for vengeance" and revealed Manuel Neuer is speeding up his recovery.
The first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal between Bayern and City ended in a 3-0 loss, which the Bayern head coach witnessed.
Only in the fourth quarter of the match, when City capitalized on the Bundesliga leaders' tolerant defense, did they put the game away.
Tuchel disagrees, believing that the tie is far from finished and that Bayern will try to capitalize on their home-field advantage in the second leg on next Wednesday.
Tuchel advised not to lose concentration. "While the task appears to be nearly impossible, nothing is impossible in football. We are dying for retribution and the second leg, I can sense it."
Neuer won't participate in that matchup against Pep Guardiola's City, but the Bayern captain is recovering well from the broken leg he sustained while on vacation skiing after Germany's early World Cup departure.
There is no expectation that Neuer will play again this season. Bayern's season continues on Saturday when they host Hoffenheim in a Bundesliga matchup. Hoffenheim has won three straight games.
Tuchel remarked, "Right now, it is a real pleasure to see Manuel Neuer in rehab every day.
"He performed his first rehabilitation activities designed specifically for goalkeepers yesterday. I felt relieved to see that he was moving in the right direction.
"Manu wants to return and perform at the greatest level, I'm positive of that. He is our captain and also the captain of the German national team, therefore we support him along the road.
When Neuer returns to full health, it will be interesting to see if Yann Sommer, who was brought in as a last-minute replacement from Borussia Monchengladbach in January, is quickly replaced.
