Liverpool will need a big summer transfer window to get back to competing for the top trophies. But the FSG scheme is emerging and has a clear pattern to follow.
There's no doubt the Liverpool squad will need major surgery this summer with several first-team stars leaving and reinforcements a must. However, the omens are good if a team's luck this season is to be believed.
Liverpool's approach is starting to become a bit clearer after pulling out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund in favor of signing three replacement midfielders. That said, with the three midfielders set to leave the club for nothing in the next transfer window, even before a sale is taken into account, the immediate task of the Reds recruitment team is unlikely. denied in the next few months.
After a disappointing season on all four fronts, the forces at Anfield are now under enormous pressure to ensure they have made the right decision to abandon their pursuit of Bellingham. But if FSG does everything as well as Napoli did last summer, then the final decision will be considered a chess move.
With Luciano Spalletti's side winning their first Scudetto since 1990 and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, it's easy to forget the fact that they actually had more work to do this past summer on transfer market compared to Liverpool. time around. After making a bold move to cash in on a host of familiar names, it looks like the bet has turned out to be more beneficial for the Italian giants. It can be recalled that the Neopolitans dropped a bunch of their key players from previous seasons, such as longtime forwards Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, favorite midfielder Fabián Ruiz and star defender Kalidou Koulibaly. . They divided the money raised from those departures to rehabilitate an aging party.
In attack, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone (on loan) were introduced. They are joined by midfielders André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Tanguy Ndombele (also on loan), while defender Kim Min-Jae has also been added to the ranks. It should be noted that Napoli also made a profit in last summer's transfer window, with a spending of $83 million (£67 million/€76 million) offset by a $89 million ($70 million) withdrawal. pounds/80 million euros) revenue. If you also take into account that Kim, who has been impressive in midfield this season, and key midfielder Anguissa have cost Napoli just $19m (£16m/18m) and $18m respectively. la (£14m/16m), it's clear that great value can be found in the positions Liverpool are keen to revamp this summer.
The fact that Napoli are 16 points ahead of second-placed Lazio after just nine matches tells its own story. Liverpool know all too well the dramatic change the Italian has made this campaign, following a 4-1 draw at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in September. To be fair, all of their major signings from last summer have had a significant impact this season as the Gli Azzurri.
