ENGAGEMENT WITH THE PRESBYTERIAN NURSING TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS AT BAWKU SHS 31/08/22
The Advisory Board of the Presbyterian church Nurses Training college in Upper East region engaged some of the students at Bawku SHS today, 31/08/22
For security and safety reasons some of the students who felt unsafe at the main campus were relocated to the Bawku SHS to continue their training under a conducive and peaceful environment.
OPTION
In view of the continuing conflict in Bawku some of the students felt unsafe to remain at the main campus. The Board in consultation with some major stakeholders sent the students to Bolga for tuition. The high cost of keeping the students at Bolga was unsustainable coupled with the accompanying inconvenience. A decision was taken to send the students back to the main campus after their official break following assurances from the Bawku Municipal security committee. However, some parents, students and stakeholders thought otherwise. They expressed fears of the safety of some students at the main campus. The Board in further consultation postponed the reopening of the college by two weeks to allow for further consultations.
SATELLITE CAMPUS
The idea of a satellite campus was agreed to accommodate such students who feared to remain at the main campus for their of safety:
- those students who wanted to remain at the main campus were given the opportunity to remain there
- the other students who felt unsafe at the main campus were relocated to the Bawku SHS
- there was a third option for those who wanted to leave Bawku all together to be transferred to any college of their choice in the region ( the Hon Regional Minister had promised to facilitate the official transfer of such students)
- the Hon Regional Minister and Zug-raan, Bawku Naba contacted the GES authorities in Region and some facilities were released to us.
OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE PRESBYTERIAN NURSING TRAINING COLLEGE SATELLITE CAMPUS AT BAWKU SHS
On the 19/08/22 some students reported to the new campus at the Bawku SHS. The number of 159 students has overwhelmed us and the facilities at the new campus. Some challenges have been recorded as regards Accommodation, class rooms and other facilities.
In view of the above the Chairman and Advisory Board Members arranged an engagement meeting with the students to learn from them their challenges with the view to finding solution to them. Today, Wednesday, 31/08/22 the following people met the students at Bawku secondary school

Mr John Dubik AG Principal of the college
- Hon David Adoliba Assembly Member of Gingande and personal Aid of Zug-raan , representing Zug-raan
MEETING WITH THE STUDENTS
A meeting with a total number of 159 students made up of 101 males and 58 females came off today.
Mr John Dubik AG Principal explained in detail to the students efforts being made by the college authorities to make their studies successful. He explained that 71 pieces of furniture, two projectors, markers etc were provided as a first step to start with; some metal furniture are being manufactured by a contractor in Bolga and will be delivered direct to the new campus
He said their feeding will be improved and enhanced, utility facilities are being fixed and teaching and learning will be improved. He assured them that management of the college was doing everything to meet their needs and appealed to them to stop suspecting some staff members as working against their interest.
- the Board Member representing the Board at the meeting DJ Abang-Gos advised the students to be good ambassadors of the college in their new environment, they are tertiary students in a secondary school environment and they must live beyond reproach. The Board member advised the students to settle their education fees to enable management to discharge it's mandate. That they shouldn't listen to people who are trying to put a wedge between the students and management. They should know their main purpose in school and work to achieve same. They should remember that challenges bring the best from serious people for their personal benefit in particular and the larger society in general. Their stay in school is temporary and they must make the best out of their stay in school
Abang-Gos delivered a good will message from the Board chairman and members and assured the students the Board preparedness to do everything possible for them to achieve their aims
Hon David Adoliba speaking for Zug-raan first extended salutations from the Zug-raan to the students and lecturers and assured them of his continuous support. Hon Adoliba encouraged the students to take the studies seriously and come out with flying colors. He told them that they are not part of the Bawku conflict and should not get involved. Whether they are kusasi or whatever ethnic groups they are in the school to study and not to be involved with ethnic conflicts. They should respect all protocols that guide their stay in the new environment. He advised them not to use their mobile phones for negative and irrelevant things but rather use them to enhance their academic development OPEN FORUM
An opportunity was given for a feedback from the students and below were their concerns:
- expansion of classroom and Accomodation facilities
- electricity, bedding, bathing and toilet facilities need expansion and improvement
- general furniture are required
- additional class room facilities are also needed
