Chelsea are 'willing to break the bank to make Gavi one of the BIGGEST earners'

Chelsea are willing to make Gavi one of the highest paid players in the Premier League, according to a report.

The 18-year-old midfielder has seen his Barcelona career thrown into doubt over the last few months, with a row between his club and LaLiga over his contract Barca's latest controversy.

Barcelona haven't been able to register Gavi as a first-team player - despite his importance to the side - because of their ongoing financial struggles.

Officials from the Blues are said to have already met with the Spaniard's representatives to discuss a potential transfer, with more meetings reportedly planned.

According to AS, Chelsea are ready to break the bank to persuade Gavi to join the club as Todd Boehly continues to invest heavily in the playing staff at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have reportedly made their interest clear to Gavi and his representatives and to stressed how important a role he would be to their side going forward.

AS report the first meeting was satisfactory for all involved and a second one is expected shortly to discuss the next steps.

In a potential second meeting, it's said that Boehly will attend alongside Gavi's parents, as well as the player's agent, former Spain midfielder Ivan de la Pena.

Barcelona have not been able to register Gavi as a first-team squad member but are adamant a solution an be found ahead of next season.

The four-year contract extension Gavi signed back in September, which contained a £879million release clause, is no longer be valid because it's not been registered by LaLiga due to salary limits and Barca's issues with financial fair play.

It's likely Chelsea would be willing to splash out on wages because there would be no transfer fee involved.

Gavi has made 87 appearances for Barcelona's first team and has also impressed for his country, most recently in the World Cup in Qatar.
