Mikel Arteta responds flawlessly to the Opta Premier League predictor's decision as to who will win the league
City remains the title favourite over Arsenal according to Opta.
Prior to the Premier League encounter between Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC at Anfield on April 9, 2023, Mikel Arteta arrives.
Regarding Opta's prediction that Manchester City will be more likely to win the league than Arsenal, Mikel Arteta jokingly said "nothing has changed."
Despite Arsenal being six points ahead of Pep Guardiola's team, OPTA predicts Manchester City will win the Premier League with a 53% likelihood and Arsenal with a 47% chance.
However, given the nature of Arsenal's accomplishments this year, their odds have increased from 0.1% in August demonstrating how far they have gone against the odds to hold their current position.
In his pre-West Ham press conference on Friday, Arsenal manager Arteta was asked about these Opta projections and responded with his customary cool-headedness. When you questioned them at the beginning of the season, it was undoubtedly this way, he replied. Therefore, nothing has changed.
The 41-year-old was then questioned about whether he personally expected Arsenal to contend for the championship, especially in light of the fact that so many experts had written them off after they missed out on a top-four finish the previous season.
Arteta reiterated that his goal in football is to constantly be competing for trophies and that he never plans that far in advance.
"You honestly progress day by day. In a month in football, there is so much that happens that it is impossible to properly look. Obviously, the goal was to return this football team to its rightful place, which is to fight and compete for every single award available. We are where we are, and that's what we're trying to do. We must now complete the task. We will need to ask more of everyone in order to do that.
