LOLOBI HEALTH CENTRE IS SUFFERING FROM NEGLECT; THE CHIEF AND FACILITY HEAD ARE APPEALING FOR HELP

The migratory Ewedme in the region gave the inhabitants of Lolobi its name because they were adept at melting iron quickly to produce a variety of farming tools and ironware.

"People who melt and readily make iron implements" is what the word lolobi signifies. It is a contraction of the words lolo, which means "to melt," and bi, which means "ready" or "complete."

But things at the iron smelters are not going well. Due to years of neglect at the sole facility that provides for them, their health is in jeopardy.

Thus, the government and key stakeholders have been urged by the chief and the residents of the Lolobi Traditional Area in the Guan District of the Oti Region to provide urgent support for the only hospital in the area.

They said that the Lolobi Health Centre, which lacks enough resources, has difficulty offering the populations it serves high-quality treatment.

The hospital, which cares for 30 outpatients on average each day, is situated in a structure that was generously provided by an indigenous person in 1991.

But because there aren't enough funds to keep it up, the facility, which was renovated by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), has deteriorated over time and has cracks running through its walls.

The hospital also features a stationary broken-down tricycle ambulance given by the KOFIH Foundation that remains immovable owing to maintenance concerns, even though portions of its ceiling have fallen off.

The institution has 10 health professionals on staff, but just one of them is a midwife.

The facility's leader and midwife, Victoria Dogbe, claimed that throughout her seven years of employment, there had been no progress made in the working conditions of the personnel.

She bemoaned her ongoing exhaustion at work and said, "Being the lone midwife is really difficult. I have to conduct births and Antenatal Care (A&C) in the morning, stay up late to complete them, and go on outreaches.

"I am in pain...I need a midwife to help me," she continued.

Dogbe manages 65 A&C sessions and 10 deliveries on average per month.
