BAWKU PRESBY HOSPITAL AND THE NTC. WE MUST SAY THE PRESBYTERIAN

We took sometime today to visit Bawku Presby Hospital and the NTC. We must say the Presbyterian church should be commended for establishing these great facilities especially the Hospital. But we have few points which demands a critical look with regards to the volatile nature of community in which these facilities are situated. A section of uninformed people think the Presby church is interested in tribalism. The Presby church has no interest in the Bawku conflict and have every right close down or relocate to a satellite campus if lives will be endangered.

1.Now reopening of the NTC is not a bad idea but the current security situation though better cannot be said to have under control. The trauma students will go through when there is a single gunshot is gravely a concern.

2.Rushing to reopen an institution in such a time must be carefully thought after. No student will be comfortable learning under fear and panic.

3.In the renewed clashes we saw people enter the hospital with guns and created their own route within the hospital through to their fighters base around the stadium. This calls for a critical look since we cannot trust what may happen in the near future. Not only that a man from Garu suffered bullets wounds in that hospital with his just because they came to seek medical attention.

4. The security presence at the hospital is not a yardstick to reopen the college. We say this because as we talk many workers of the hospital cannot go in there because of the threats they have been receiving. The emotional torcher  these students will go through must be carefully looked at.

5. Let's remember that the reason for the conflict is impossible. Praying for peace is not the entire solution. Until the Mamprusis faction come into terms with reality and accept the fact that they are fighting a useless and unachievable battle we cannot entertain their vain call for peace.

We therefore want to make a passionate appeal to the school authorities to be very cautious with such a decision that may cost lives. No individual can value the institution more than the lives of the students who makeup the institution.
