At the end of the season, Romelu Lukaku "will return to Chelsea AGAINST his WILL"

Despite the Belgian striker's desire to stay in Italy, Romelu Lukaku will allegedly return to Chelsea after the conclusion of his loan stint at Inter Milan.

At the beginning of the season, Lukaku—who cost Chelsea £98 million when he transferred from Inter in the summer of 2021—joined his previous team on loan.

Although he has only scored seven goals in 24 games at the San Siro, the 29-year-old has struggled with consistency there and has missed major amounts of the season due to injuries.

Additionally, Lukaku will reportedly rejoin Frank Lampard's team 'against his will' in the summer because Inter cannot afford to keep him.

having suffered losses totaling €784m (£694m) during the previous ten years and an operating loss of around €150m (£133m) per year.

They will therefore need to make savings this summer, and given Lukaku's underwhelming performance after the club paid an €8 million (£6.9 million) loan fee to sign him back and paid for a substantial amount of his salary, the club has not gotten enough in return.

They are now planning for a future without Lukaku, and with Inter now in fifth place in Serie A, they run the risk of losing out on the Champions League for the upcoming season, which would only exacerbate their financial difficulties.

Since acquiring Inter, Suning's owners have invested more than $500 million in the club.

According to the report, Lukaku is prepared to accept a pay cut to stay at the team where he amassed 64 goals in 95 appearances between 2019 and 21.

The forward has recently scored significant goals, such as the game-winning goal in their 1-0 overall victory over Porto in the Champions League last-16 and the goal in their 2-0 triumph over Benfica in the first leg of the quarterfinal last week.

It currently appears like Inter will not make the effort to prolong Lukaku's stay unless he goes on an incredible run of play for the remainder of the season.

The fascinating possibility that Chelsea will have to sell players to balance their budget is also present.

Lukaku has been considered a possible asset they may part with.

His chances of returning to the San Siro are diminished by the fact that he is almost 30 and that a crucial component of Inter's business strategy over the years has been to sign players before selling them for a profit.

Other reports claim that the team is considering Marcus Thuram, Roberto Firmino, Mateo Retegui, and Lois Openda as potential Lukaku replacements for the upcoming season.
