Real Madrid see Haaland as a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema

Real Madrid are determined to sign Erling Haaland next summer as they look for a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema.

Haaland has been touted as the perfect choice to replace Madrid's current talisman and Florentino Perez and the Los Blancos hierarchy increasingly believe they can guarantee his service.

According to reports in the French media, through Fichajes, Haaland's agent Rafael Pimenta has revealed that Madrid are ready to activate the Norwegian player's release clause in the summer of 2024.

Athletic reported in October that Haaland's contract with Manchester City includes a €200 million release clause, which could be activated from 2024.

At this point, the Norwegian will have two years left on his five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. The value of the release clause will also decrease with each year of his contract.

In addition to the transfer fee, they will also have to pay bonuses and agency fees, which are expected to be the same as those City paid this summer.

A key element of this provision is that it can only be activated by non-Premier League clubs, which could potentially put La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid on red alert.

The striker has been in incredible form for Pep Guardiola's side, scoring 47 goals in 40 games in all competitions and is on track to break the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta.

Barcelona:

Joan Laporta, president of football club FC Barcelona, ??said on Monday that all payments to a company owned by a senior arbitration official are transparent and come in exchange for advice rather than to gain an illegal sporting advantage.

A court in Barcelona agreed to take up the case last week after prosecutors filed a complaint over what they claim was a 7.3 million euro ($7.95 million) payment from 2001 until 2018 for companies owned by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.

Laporta said there had been a media campaign to discredit the club.

Messi back? Meanwhile, Laporta has fueled Barca's hopes that Lionel Messi could return to the club this summer after a video surfaced online showing him answering 'yes' to a fan's question. about the return of the Argentine player.

Messi's immediate future is being revealed as his contract with Paris Saint Germain expires this summer amid news of tensions between him and the club following the World Cup.
