Following his game-winning performance against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Manchester United boss Erik ten Had urged Antony to constantly deliver the "final product."
After weekend losses for both Newcastle and Tottenham, United's position in the top four of the Premier League was further cemented with the 2-0 victory at the City Ground with goals and assists from Antony.
The Brazilian scored the first goal by tapping in a rebound and then set up the second for Diogo Dalot to score the game-winning goal later. By the time add-ons kick in, the Brazilian could cost United up to £85 million.
The second was a fantastic team goal, and Antony did a tremendous job bringing the pass in at the perfect time. Also, Diogo's mobility was excellent and pleasing to observe, Ten Hag observed.
In his first season with United, Antony missed a few games due to injury and illness, but he has played in every game across all competitions in which he has been eligible, starting 17 of his 18 Premier League games so far.
The former Ajax star's haul of eight goals and two assists is respectable but has massive room for improvement and that is what Ten Hag wans to see more of now.
"I defended him,” the United boss said. “He knows, I know as well, that when you're a striker, you need an end product. But already he had quite a lot of end product, he scored in all competitions now. Eight goals in his first year United is not bad and there are still games to go.
But he must complete it. I can't say in every game, but in many games, especially in all the contests, if you want to be a top-tier player. He must take action. Today was an instance where he made the appropriate choice in regards to both aims.
