According to sources who spoke with 90min, Julian Nagelsmann has spoken with Chelsea to discuss managing the club going forward.
While the Blues started to compile a shortlist of potential targets, which was initially a long list of names but is now being reduced down to a few feasible prospects, informal negotiations between Nagelsmann's agents and Chelsea had already been place in recent weeks.
Nagelsmann has now personally visited with Chelsea directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who are leading the hunt for Graham Potter's replacement, to discuss his goals for the team and whether he would be a good match for the Blues' ambition.
Luis Enrique, another top target, visited London earlier this month to meet with Chelsea's management. More recently, it was Nagelsmann's turn to pitch himself to the Premier League team.
Nagelsmann and Enrique continue to be seen as the top contenders for the position, Chelsea sources have revealed to 90min. It's significant that the same sources believe there isn't a favorite right now.
Mauricio Pochettino and Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, the latter of whom was taken into consideration when Thomas Tuchel was fired earlier this season, are also on Chelsea's shortlist, although Nagelsmann and Enrique seem to have stood out.
Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are determined to make the right choice when it comes to their next manager and are prepared to oversee a drawn-out, thorough process to ensure the best-possible candidate is hired after witnessing their first season at Stamford Bridge turn into a nightmare.
Demands for summer transfers and expectations for some of the club's young players, such as on-loan center-back Levi Colwill, who has been targeted for a place in Chelsea's first team following an excellent loan term with Brighton, are among the questions addressed to all the prospective managers.
