According to Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's performance in their 6-1 thrashing of Leeds United on Monday was their greatest of the entire season.
Following their great 2021/22 season, the Reds have had a very dismal campaign, falling far short of expectations and in serious need of a roster overhaul.
With a commanding performance at Elland Road on Monday, they were able to put their crisis behind them and strike struggling Leeds for six.
In addition to goals from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez both scored, and Trent Alexander-Arnold continued his strong play with two assists.
After the game, Klopp spoke to Sky Sports and praised his team's performance.
From every angle, I believe it was the best game we've played this year, according to Klopp. "The greatest game in a long time, we caused a lot of errors, stunning goals and counter-pressing.
There were a few difficult times, and we gave up an unnecessary goal, but such things happen. Apart from that, we had the upper hand in the contest.
Even though Liverpool crushed rival Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield in March, manager Jurgen Klopp remained adamant that the performance at Leeds was their most complete, arguing that it isn't always about how many goals you score.
"I don't care about getting six; what matters is how I perform. This was a successful performance, he continued. If we react at the appropriate time, we can be really offensively oriented. I have no idea why our counter-pressing failed earlier in the season, but tonight it was successful.
I can't remember how many goals we scored after getting the ball back, but that was crucial.
Liverpool's rout of Leeds, according to Jurgen Klopp, was their "greatest game" this year.
Liverpool supporters won't look back on the 2022–23 season with fondness, especially in light of the illustrious triumphs of the preceding campaigns.
The Reds have nevertheless managed to shine at times this year with some incredible scoring exploits and significant victories over top competition, even though Anfield could need some new energy.
